Don't be fooled by the hall of mirrors that is The Army of Angels. They have consistently misrepresented their financial accounts to the Charity Commission. The trustees of the charity set up a subsidiary company, and over the last few years has funneled a quarter of a million pounds into it. They have then claimed the debt as a current asset on their balance sheet, despite knowing that the subsidiary has no means of paying back the interest free loan. In fact, the subsidiary has less than 10 grand left in the bank. HMRC takes a very dim view of charities that use donations to keep insolvent subsidiary companies afloat. It is clear that the founder's judgement has been impaired by his conflicts of interest, namely the fact that his civil partner and her son work for the subsidiary company. Both the subsidiary and the charity have been operating at a loss for the last 3 years, and the charity has burned through half of its cash reserves. Money that was donated for the relief of injured servicemen, not for speculative investments by its trustees.
