Wow - this is an awesome place! The staff are super friendly and helpful and the engineers friendly and happy to talk about the work they do. This was our first visit and before arriving we purchased an engineers membership for a year, as it seemed like great value with the inclusion of a train ride with a members car. On the day we arrived, they just fixed the throttle on their #20 locomotive and it was doing laps, which was a real treat to see. We arrive to late to get a train ride, but with the pass we can come back any time. It's so nice that they let you into a lot of the engines, coaches and trucks at the museum, although with Covid, some of the attractions were closed. The HO club railway downstairs was a real treat and you can see the team working on it Tuesday afternoons. I think the club meets up Thursday evenings for those interested in modelling. That said, the parking is free and it's great value even with the single ticket pricing. I know my wife and I and the kids will come back a few times this year and the membership is tax deductible, so well worth getting if you live in Denver.

My daughter (3) loved this place and has been asking to return since we went. We will be sure to return once we get some more slightly warmer weather since it's primarily outdoors. The staff was nice and prices weren't bad. The outdoors setting for most of the exhibits makes social distancing easy if thats something you're concerned about.

The museum was pretty cool for all ages. You could go on a lot of the trains. Not as many as normal since they were used for polar express actors. On one of the trains you could push buttons to make real sounds and ring the bell. The downstairs portion of the shop had a really cool town and train display. For a quarter you could move the trains. Beautiful pictures by Ben Rose I believe. (Sorry if I got his name wrong.) He was very talented. Definitely worth checking out. It takes about 2 hours to look at everything and read about each train. The employess were very helpful in answering any questions.

Honestly was just going for the kiddos HOPING they would enjoy it. It turned out to be AMAZING. We ALL enjoyed our time there. The only cons were we saw in other reviews Thomas would be there, but he's only there in September, and a lot of things were closed off where they couldn't get on and check it out. All in all, we would definitely go back. Also don't forget to check out their gift shop, we got all 5 of us something for 19. You can't beat that.

Our four-and-a-half-year-old loves trains. We came from California and brought him here based on a friend’s recommendation hearing that it’s a 15-acre outdoor space to go into and look at a bunch of old real trains, with lots of moving models. Yes, we’re visiting in the middle of a pandemic, and, yes, it’s between Christmas and New Years, and, yes, it’s been snowing, but, really? They charge regular admission to go through 1/4 of the experience you’d get without all the factors listed. There is supposed to be an adorable model train running outdoors for people to sit and watch go through a beautiful landscape setting, and that wasn’t running. 90% of the train exhibits were closed, the outdoor space was actually a mess (different moving equipment strewn everywhere), and 15 acres of outdoor trains just meant 30 minutes of walking around looking at unmoving trains. When I asked the ticket counter person if there were train rides the day we went, she acted like I was insane or stupid to ask on a Tuesday, and was an overall grouch. What I really didn’t like is that they purposely make you walk through the gift shop first before being able to enter the outdoor train area, and if your 4-and-a-half year old is like mine and easily distracted by toys, you won’t even get out of the gift shop for the first 20 minutes of your visit until you can convince him/her to leave the toys behind. Ultimately, if coming during pandemic in the winter, just don’t do it unless you want to pay 10/adult to walk around a dead train yard (and look at snow on trains, I guess?). If your child loves snow and trains, then it may be worth it if you’re in the area and want to treat your child to looking at trains and walking around in the snow. Granted, our son had a lot of fun for about an hour and a half (though he was still really disappointed he couldn’t go in all the trains that are usually open), so that’s why this place still got 4 stars from me.
