What a fabulous week I had at this language school. Two teachers one French one English. Both highly educated and fully qualified, charming, interesting and amusing. The time was spent so well covering the french language of course - but equally important the sheer essence of the French character and French way of life. As a complete beginner I struggled with the grammar and vocabulary but our teachers were all embracing and ensured that I was not excluded and I quickly found my stride. The mornings were spent in studying and conversation and after a delicious lunch (a different restaurant each day ) we were driven to see and take part in local cultural activities. I was very lucky to stay in Gourdon with a lovely French lady in a typical French cottage -thus ensuring complete immersion in the French experience Well done French Residential -I will be back

We had a great week at French Residential. The team were very professional and the teaching was excellent. Staff were friendly and encouraging and it was great fun learning. The trips were interesting and we really enjoyed staying with our host who made us feel very welcome and coped admirably with our somewhat unrefined French!
This is a very well structured course which is skilfully adapted to the individual’s needs and level of French. With the benefit of hindsight, I might have liked more formal tuition and a bit less sight-seeing, though I thoroughly enjoyed finding new restaurants in the area. The evenings spent in the company of the delightful couple Giles arranged for me to stay with were not only most enjoyable but also provided invaluable practice in conversational French.
If you need to level up and really get to grips with the culture, language and the pronunciation of French, I can highly recommend The French Residential language school. The excursions, the time in the class and the lovely lunches are totally unforgettable. Yes, French is spoke most of the time, but even at my level it was understandable. Thank you, Giles and Thierry, I appreciate the patience you have shown me.
I spent a really enjoyable week in Gourdon with Giles and Thierry and 3 other students. The mix of teaching in the mornings (with mid morning coffee and pastry), a tasty restaurant lunch and then a sightseeing trip with French guide in the afternoon made it feel like a holiday, but I found a big step forward in my French understanding during the week. The teaching was at an appropriate level for me and was very much tailored towards practical use of French, with some interesting historical and grammatical asides. The other 3 people on my course were a lot of fun. I stayed in the town with a French couple, Mark & Claudine with simple en-suite accommodation, more delicious food a delightful dog and the opportunity to speak French in the evenings. Highly recommended.
I thoroughly enjoyed my week at the French residential course in Gourdon. Giles and Thierry are fantastic teachers, bringing lots of energy and humour to each class and adjusting content to meet each student’s needs. Small class sizes (2-3 in each class when I was there) meant lots of individual attention and opportunities to practise speaking. Morning tuition was followed by lovely restaurant lunches and afternoon excursions to beautiful historic villages. As a solo traveller, i was very pleased to have the opportunity to stay in the home of a lovely local lady who provided beautiful accommodation, breakfast and dinner. I highly recommend this experience to anyone looking for an enjoyable and effective way to develop French language skills for any purpose.
I went for a 1 week course in July 2019 and really enjoyed it. I wanted to improve my rusty school French and there was certainly plenty of opportunity. As well as the classes, there were lunches and trips where we spoke lots of French and I stayed with a host in the town so spoke French at dinner too! It was all arranged so the level was right for our small friendly group of 4. Giles and Thierry made the classes fun and were great hosts for all the activities. In summary, it was a well organised and really enjoyable experience. I would recommend it.
A great experience which managed to be both a holiday and effective learning environment. Giles is both a great teacher and great host and it works well with his French assistant Thierry. I was there primarily for the morning tuition but did attend one full day including lunch and a visit to Rocamadour in the afternoon. A varied and interesting course if you do all the visits as Giles is very knowledgeable about the local area as well.
