Brought our newborn in because we were concerned she might have labored breathing. (she got out of hospital Wednesday night) they checked her and said she was fine, a total of 3 Dr's said she was fine. But they wanted to do an chest xray. After almost 2 hours of waiting they finally come in and say they didn't see anything but was going to admit her for observation and blood work in case she could have pneumonia. Mind you, without any signs of it. Her nose was stopped up and they sucktioned it out. We told them no and said we were going to take her home. Our reasoning being it was needless tests to rack up the bill. She was just discharged from Inova Fairfax nicu, one of the top nicu's in the nation. If there was even the slightest chance of her having respiratory issues, let alone a chance for pneumonia, they would not have discharged her. This ER has a lot of students and very few doctors. The other post is correct, a lot of students coming in.

Staff is very friendly but not efficient at all or well staffed with doctors at all to handle minor emergencies. Our 3 year old came in with second degree burn on her arm. We were told at triage that it needed to be debrided and that they would sedate her for that because they wouldn’t even put adults through that pain. That’s what we were told at 8pm. From there, we waited and saw doctor after doctor who told us what would be happening as soon as they got a hold of trauma doctors. Mind you, the children’s ED was not busy AT ALL. No one in the waiting room for hours. I am assuming for seven hours (our total time there) it must have been an insane night in the adult ED. Trauma drs came in at 2am and AGAIN told us what they would do but said they had to go take care of some adult patients first. At 2:45am 2 entirely new drs came in to do the procedure and assured us there was no need to sedate as they scrubbed my child’s arm vigorously on her second degree wound. It was absolutely horrible. I was clueless as a parent. Seven hours of waiting, seven doctors, no sedation—-Vidant continues to give the worst service ever in their Emergency Department. It is baffling. I am all about drs learning but literally they kept sending in doctor after doctor that i needed to retell our story too, have them unwrap her arm, then rewrap it, and tell us the next doctor would be in soon. Absolutely ridiculous. Vidant should be better.
