Someone recommended Gretna Green as a stop off when travelling along M74. It's really busy, nearly full car park, many coaches and literally 3 minutes from the motorway. It's a popular place yet I literally don't know why. It's just like a motorway services in terms of motorway noise and motorway prices. There is history and if that's your thing, or you want to get married in a registry office then, it offers that. Otherwise, make Carlisle your stop on this North/South bound journey. Food is okay, but 7.99 for a bit of gammon, some warmed oven chips and some really terrible 'vegetables' is far too much. The vegetables is my main grumble with this price. The baked potato, with tuna and some meagre wilted salad at 4.99 isn't so bad. Food was okay, but I definitely wouldn't stop here again or recommend it to anyone else.

Interesting museum and plenty of shops with various items solely aimed at the tourist customers. Worth a visit though.
