Just Change is proposed as an alternative economic structure that will allow people to express solidarity in far more effective ways than has been done in the past. It is rooted in the concept of creating direct links right across the economic chain, from labourers and producers all the way through to consumers and investors and enabling them to participate in the economy in a cooperative manner rather than a competitive one. Just Change was born out of the experience of ACCORD, an organisation founded in 1986 to work with the adivasis of the Gudalur Valley of the Nilgiri Hills of Tamil Nadu. ACCORD helped found the Adivasi MunnetraSangam (AMS), a membership based tribal organisation with 4000 families as members. Just Change has been working with tribal community in Gudalur and has been helping them to achieve economic empowerment by controlling the value chain of the commodities products by tribal community. Just Change is committed to following mission Support and enable disadvantaged communities to take control of their local economies through collective action both as producers and consumers. In order to do this Just Change will work with organisations that have successfully mobilised communities to work together to achieve social change. Develop the tools and mechanisms by which local economies can be analysed and understood by the communities themselves. Enable communities to use the power of collective action to become a proactive “force” within the market rather than remain vulnerable and passive victims of the injustices of a global free market economy. And to use this force based on human values rather than on narrow market driven objectives. Create an alternative trade and marketing system by establishing direct links between likeminded communities that will enable them to directly trade with each other and thus build up a robust network of local economies that will work for the mutual benefit of all its members.
