Awful place to work for if you are a person who needs and wants a to work for a place that encourages growth. Management is complacent with their fixed culture; they have no desire to change and improve upon issues. One issue is lack of communication. I had multiple staff members acknowledge this issue, yet also admit to being okay with it. They stated, \It's just the way it is here.\ I attempted to be an example of organization and good communication, but they did not seem to appreciate someone challenging the status quo, even though they admit to the demand of change. Staff will accommodate to rules and policies when the state comes to observe, yet will neglect rules and policies once the state is gone. I am uncertain if every facility is like this, but the one I worked for is.

With the lockdown directive from the CDC, We’ve been working with Specialty Health and Rehabilitation in Pensacola Florida in facilitating “visiting” with our Mom. Mom can’t do FaceTime as she has a flip phone and dementia . Using the same process that’s worked in Kirkland Washington, we’ve been sitting at an exit with a clear glass door and talking with her on her phone. We were doing this twice a day. We were not camped out. We would meet in the morning after breakfast and in afternoon before dinner. We always made sure our visit did not conflict with her treatments. This kept everyone safe. We were not in physical contact with her or staff. However today, Specialty’s corporate office declared NO ONE is allowed on the property. Their way of communicating this policy change was to have their Risk Management Director call me and order me off the property. He threatened to call the cops and escort me off the property. Wow! Take about over reacting! Talk about heartless corporations! This man’s words and attitude made me feel threatened. I’m a white haired 69 year old woman who flew 3000 miles to try to communicate with my mom. They would not allow my sister, who is her POA to have contact with her. You can meet with me or call and advise that there are new policy changes, but threats??? This is way out of line. A total lack of compassion. Could it be that the GCHC CORP honchos meeting at Specialty Health and Regab were intimidated by the two little old women sitting in rockers this morning?

Had a phone call just hours before my 83 year old mother was to be transported only to be told that after two weeks they still don’t have room. Was told 24 hours ago what room she’d be assigned . The Regional director called me hemmmed and hawed with all kinds of excuses but no real answers so I made the decision NOT to transfer her to their care. Only to find out that GulfCoast health care had not contacted the transferring facility and my mom was in process of being transferred. Regional Director was very condescending when I called ba k and asked to speak with his director and said “I’m glad you want to get her here so badly”. I assured him that was not the case. Poorly managed program.
