Fettle Studio is a young multi-disciplinary design practice focused on architecture and ceramics. The company was founded in 2018 by architect and ceramic artist, Lydia Johnson, to pursue a more flexible, integrated and hands-on approach to design and craft at many scales. With over a decade of experience in housing and regeneration with practices such as Nash Partnership and Mae Architects, Lydia is building an architectural portfolio in the community, arts and residential sectors. At Fettle Studio, her current projects range from a community centre in north west London and a number of private home extensions, to facade sample tiles and slip-cast porcelain tableware. Her Tessellating Collection has been featured in shops and galleries around London and Bristol, including Thrown Contemporary in Highgate. Lydia has been a design tutor and visiting critic for schools including The Cass, Westminster and the LSA, and regularly collaborates with architectural research and making facility, Grymsdyke Farm, as a tutor and designer. She is also co-curating an exhibition with the Building Centre, to showcase ceramics in architecture, in 2020.
