I lived at 5885 Cunard for approx. 2 years. I moved from Toronto, ON and this was my first apartment in Halifax. It's a pleasant, quiet building. When I arrived the tenants were primarily older Scotians, but in these past few years (especially on the upper floors) the crowd has become young professionals (Come from Aways, folk moving to Halifax from the country). The units are spacious and clean. Building management is very professional and kind. The amenities are lovely (and I wish I took better advantage of them). I lived on the 13th floor and experienced no loud noises. I didn't need an A/C or fan; I left the windows open almost year round. I would recommend 5885 for any young professional looking to start their new life in Halifax. The building has very beautiful, calm vibes.

Nice considerate management team, friendly neighbours. Hallways and elevators are always clean. Include a free gym and swimming pool on Main floor. Cat-friendly. I can’t think of anything wrong about this place.

I am moving out of MacDonald Apartments after three years (because I am moving out of the province) and am sad to go. The building is well-managed, and issues are dealt with promptly. It is an older building, so there is a bit of maintenance that goes on, but the office is very good at notifying residents in the elevators, and with written notices on/under your door. They also leave everyone little gifts for the various holidays and they host events in the lobby, with coffee on Wednesday mornings for residents. There is active work put into making it a community over just a rental building. There are a lot of amenities like the gym, pool and garden units (request these specifically and you can have an area to grow herbs if your balcony doesn't get enough sunlight). There is an app to track when your laundry is ready (which has always been amazing for me, as the laundry room is in the basement). You can also see if the room is full or not and don't have to waste your time going down if nothing is available. The building is mix of seniors and young professionals, so it definitely isn't a party building. My unit was quite large for a one bedroom and I am very sad to leave it. I really enjoyed living here and would recommend this building to anyone thinking of renting here. Units go FAST so if one is available, jump on it.

Lived here for 3 months so far and it has been awesome. Building is a little dated but the rents are very reasonable. Location is incredible and most importantly the management team is superb, very easy to deal with. We've had a few minor repairs done in our unit and they got them completed 1 day after we filed the request, which is awesome. So far living here has been a great decision.

No dogs allowed. You talk about how there is a park near by "...you can both stretch your legs..."... I have seen people walk/drag(no joke) their cat around but not enough for you to advertise your pet policy like such. No body is taking their fish for walks!

Did not live there, just went for a viewing. Would not live there. First of All, bedbugs! While the super was showing the unit to us, a bedbug jumped onto my pants and I got rid of it when the super showed me the way to the balcony. I did not mention it to the super. Second, the rental price of the apartment provided was fluctuating on daily basis. When I called, I was quoted for price A; when the view was done, I was quoted for price B. And there was 90 difference between A & B in one day. The super explained: the head office changes the rental price constantly. Third, the building needs some upgrades for sure.
