I've reflected on this for a while. And while I generally had an awesome meal that was super creative, two things irked me. To begin, I did their tasting menu which was generally great and super creative. The flavours were highly original and my only complaint food wise was that the portions on dishes were a bit unbalanced ,(i.e. some too small, others like the brussel sprouts, waaaay too big) . Food wise, place was very good. My two complaints were: 1) They were "creative" as to what constituted a course. At the end of the meal I was left with the impression that two of the courses were not really courses. One being the miso soup (50 cents of ingredients if that) and the second being the fruit salad preceding the dessert. 2) I never actually received the proper dessert course! I left thinking that the fruit salad WAS the dessert which I was highly unimpressed by. But then I went back and counted my courses and spoke to others who had been and I realized I totally got stiffed a course! But after the salad I got a "Can I bring you anything else?" (hint hint, the bill?) Honest mistake I guess, but really soured the experience.

I've patronised Simon for more than 10 years at his Dundas locations. Never disappointed with the quality, taste and presentation. Will return soon.

Absolutely delicious. Friendly, attentive wait staff. Great atmosphere. Our party of four went for the omakase option, which came out to about 90/person. The staff were able to create an entirely vegetarian omakase selection for one member of our party, which was at least as good as the non-vegetarian options. We will definitely be back! I only wish our photos did the food better justice because in addition to being delicious, the food was visually stunning.

Such a phenomenal place. I really enjoyed my time here. The experience was a journey of new tastes and flavours I've now checked off my bucket list. One thing that must be raved about is the green tea cheese cake. Good lord, the green tea cheesecake. The cheesecake can have me... Thank you so much #marysbud #marybuds

Wanted to try out the new sushi place that 2 black sheep transformed to. Paid 80 for the omakase. Started off with the saltiest miso soup I've ever tasted! No exaggeration, the table next to us were complaining too. We then had an ok salad, a bit in the bitter side. We then had albacore tuna in ponzu sauce. Sauce was ok but tuna was soggy and not fresh. This set the trend for pretty much all the fish that we tried. Pretty much none of the fish was any good, which is disappointing considering many AYCE places have fresher fish. The suace used in the brussel sprouts was very good even if they were a bit firm. The cooked salmon was well sauced but a bit slimy. The sushi roll was a bit thick on rice but was pretty good. Same with the unagi. By far the best item was the scallop sushi. It had good sauce and the texture and firmness was perfect. We then had some cold noodles made from cucumbers I think and that was decent and finished with a slice of orange for dessert. Overall quite underwhelming and overpriced for what you get and the freshness was lacking even compared to AYCE restaurants. Our waitress was very nice and worked hard for us which was greatly appreciated. If you want good omakase then go to sushi Masayuki in Burlington. It's more expensive and you get less food but it is totally worth it!

Stop scrolling. This is the restaurant you are looking for. We just spent the week in Toronto and got to visit a handful of very unique and cool establishments. Nothing comes close to comparing to the service that we were treated to at Paper Crane. Not to mention the food. Wow. Flavors out of this world. The bespoke tasting menu and intimate environment combined create a truly unique dining experience.
