It's an amazing experience to walk into a shop in the midst of a transformation. Only 6 months following the move from their smaller shop down the road, Prouse is truly expanding to fill their new space well. The layout for the pottery workshop (which we vastly enjoyed last night) was fun, there was enough space, the materials were all provided and each one of us felt we were being taught and mentored at a level comparable with our ability. I hope to try other workshops in future - soap making anyone? I think the community of artisans (in what has truly become Hamilton's second wind in terms of viable, sustainable industries that terminate world sick) benefits largely from businesses like Prouse that support them, display their products, give the nerds in the city a voice, and make everyone feel welcome. Can't wait to return and after obtaining permission I will post what we made last night!

Nick was fantastic and very informative... really knows his stuff. Super friendly as well! Great vibes from this place, especially taking one of the soap making classes as my first experience and introduction to Prouse Pottery and Soap! I'll continue buying my soaps from here and hopefully take part in another class. I would recommend their classes and products to anyone!
I love learning how to throw pottery here! I came into the workshops knowing absolutely nothing about pottery except having played with clay in Grade 1, and after 4 classes I'm throwing some really good cylinders and feeling comfortable with the wheel! I feel like each class I'm given the tools to learn and progress so that I see a marked difference every time I leave. The vibe is fun and easygoing, and not pretentious at all. The other students are learning at different levels and paces alongside me and Nick is able to meet each students' needs within the class setting. The price is affordable, which is important considering we try to work within our family's budget. I've been recommending Prouse Pottery to my friends & will continue doing that.
I did a Valentine's day pottery class last month and we have yet to receive the items we made and paid for. We were told it would take two weeks to fire, which is fine. After three weeks I had not heard from him, so I decided to call and ask if they were ready. He told me they were, and to come into the store to get them. When I arrived he said he thought I was someone else calling and that mine would be ready the next day. Honest mistake I thought, fine. So the next day I went back in and once again was told my mugs had not been fired. This repeated over and over for a total of four times, each time he gave me a different excuse. It's a pain for me to get to the store, as I live on the other side of town. He agreed to drop off my mug on Saturday. Today is Sunday and I have not heard from him. It has been over a month since we made the mugs. It's a shame I have to give this awful review, because we did have a fun time making the mugs, but I can't help but feel my kindness is being taken advantage of. I will update this review when I receive the mugs I paid for.
While this man is a great teacher, he is an irresponsible business owner and a pathological liar. I tried to pick up my pottery 12 times after my pottery sessions ended. Each week the owner would ask me to come back on a specific day to collect my finished pottery and every time the owner had a new obscure excuse as to why the pottery had not yet been fired. On the 11th time that I went to pick up my pottery, I called ahead and the owner said he wasn’t at the shop that day and that it was closed. I then drove by the shop only to find him sitting outside of it with the open sign flashing red. He then again refused to give me my pottery saying the room was too hot to retrieve it from, even though he said he had taken it out of the kiln a week ago. Eventually I told him he needed to either give me my pottery or give me a portion of my money back. He finally gave me back my pieces which he never actually even fired although he claimed that they were- It’s very obvious what fired pottery looks like and this was not. Now I am left to find somewhere to fire my pieces. While I would like to think that this scenario has only happened to me, unfortunately I have had 2 other friends who have experienced the same thing, and never even got their pottery back at all. I strongly recommend if you are like looking to do pottery in Hamilton that you find a reliable and trustworthy teacher.
Would not recommend this business at all. Refuses to provide students with completed projects and always provides excuses and doesn't show to agreed meetings. Use a your own risk. Only gave one star because I couldn't post without one.
I had a fantastic time in their beginners soap making class. Nick taught us about fundamentals and the history of soap with many jokes along the way. Thanks for the great class!!!
Great customer service! They remembered me from day 1. Very helpful with projects I am working on and they offer an array of workshops. Excellent essential oils at an extremely reasonable price love this store!
