Though short staffed, I thought the staff were so good. Some really stood out. There was a nurse Ophelia (young black lady). She gave very clear loud instructions while I was panicking. I really needed someone there to help. She was with me for ages while I laboured which felt comforting. I still remember her telling me to breathe. Then there was a little old thin lady (called Lily?) There was a photo of her on the wall in the hallway because of her long service. She helped me have a bath for the first time after birth. I was so fragile and could barely walk after my emergency caesarean section. She helped me get in the bath which was quite a big feat for me. There was a large bandage over my scar and she assured me it wouldn't hurt while she peeled it off. I was so scared after my operation of infections or pain. She helped bring my baby to the car. I was so tearful at the help but it was probably all the post natal hormones. I still have vivid recollections even though this was 2010. My baby is now 10.5 thanks to them.

I have had 2 fantastic birth experiences on Birthday Unit, 2013 and 2018. The team always strived to help any way they can. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend PAH for low and high risk pregnancies.
after a home delivery attempt that ended in a trip to the hospital for the presence of maconium in ammoniotic fluid, it was actually the last hospital I would go to in a normal situation due to the less good stories I heard yet I was surprised by a fantastic team, very careful, that even in the emergency situation that was, explained everything that was going on and that when there was a real need for an episiotomy, since I had immediately said that I didn't want cuts, they explained to me risk and waited for me to accept it. made the least possible cut and an excellent suture job. my son was born super healthy. in the end I was still told that I had done a good job (when in fact I felt I had failed). I'm sorry I don't remember the name of the team. but it was indeed the best treatment he could have had in an emergency situation. but as there is always something else to report, there was a security guard who denied entry to my husband when we were all waiting for him in the delivery room to cut the umbilical cord. in short ... because of this idiot my husband lost the birth of our son. but about that follows a written complaint to the hospital
I went to the birthing unit 12 hours after my waters broke and when my contractions were 5 mins apart but was made to wait two hours by a midwife called Ofelia who then rudely told me I was not having contractions, refused to examine me and told me to go home despite my being alone, in pain and distress. I went home by myself and nearly gave birth on the bathroom floor. I ended up taking an ambulance which Ofelia told me off for calling on my return. Examination proved that I was fully dilated but everything went down hill from there as I was exhausted, stressed and in shock. I was cut in the wrong place which caused a large loss of blood so had to spend 3 nights on the ward, which was chaos, and I didn't get a wink of sleep. Staff were rude, disorganised and also judgy about my marital status. I do not recommend this unit or its midwives, especially Ofelia, who spoiled my birthing experience.
My daughter was born here during lockdown. They were brilliant, can't fault them.
Maternity unit mismanaged our pregnancy resulting in a loss of the baby. I wouldn't wish this treatment on my worst enemy. Please avoid PAH maternity of you can
Don't have your baby here. We've had several issues with a lack of care that have resulted in losing 3 babies. The hospital doesn't care at all. Didn't offer even an appointment after the last loss to check all the bits had come out. I've heard similar stories from other women and also the midwife at my GP alluded to a drop in standards in the maternity care at the hospital. Please, do your research and don't go here or they could also mishandle your pregnancies
An excellent birthing unit with fantastic staff who are clearly passionate about the work they do and great security. The care provided on the two occasions we used the facility were very good and despite some chaotic moments, we were always treated with dignity and respect. Post-natal care was excellent and we were looked after, and kept in touch with, when we went home. The midwives really do go above and beyond and I would not hesitate to recommend.
