LIHP and its Affiliates implement a multitude of programs to foster affordable housing for homebuyers and renters, including scattered-site developments; “smart growth” and transit oriented developments; renovation and re-sale of foreclosures; provision of down payment assistance; employer assisted housing; and education of prospective homebuyers.

I used the first time home buyer with employee assistance program. The buying process was unpleasant from start to finish. When initially trying to get involved, I was told the program had been defunded for the year and I could only get money from my employer. I went ahead and followed their advice. While in the process of purchasing, this info changed and I received attitude from all involved at the partnership, even though it was their wrong information given. The rehab program was horrible. I used Murtha construction and have had nothing but problems with their work. They subcontracted most of the work out. More so, the person at the partnership was rude and was trying to dictate what windows, etc that I had to install. This was a personal preference and not a requirement. She had an attitude about the house and my style decision. Overall, the rehab was a mistake. l had to pay to have most of it fix or completed properly over the years. Now that my ten years are up, I'm being told I need to pay large fees to remove the liens from my house. This was never disclosed to me. I also wouldn't have known that I had to actively remove the liens if I hadn't questioned why I was still receiving affidavits to file. There was no communication from them at the completion of the grant. Overall, the program has nice intentions, but my experience with the personal leaves a lot to be desired. They are rude and don't fully explain when questioned. I truly wish I had bought the house without them. I would have struggled more, but the aggravation and shoty work was not worth it. Beware and think twice if you can manage on your own.

I just want to take this opportunity to thank the LIHP, especially my counselor Michelle, for all their help with the purchase of my first home. I officially closed on my condo on 5/21st and all moved in. The LIHP free mortgage counseling for first time home buyers is an absolute amazing program and so glad it exists. I knew nothing about buying a home and learned a lot. Thank you again.

I had to change my rating based on my recent experience. I will never recommend them. The lack of communication is appalling. Not even an email. You only get an email Dropbox after you're in contract. Waste of time. I ended up with a house I didn't like at all in order to get into contract within time frame, and still didn't get the grant.

With the exception of changing the bank which I would be obtaining my mortgage from, the process of The First Home Club was seamless. The class was very informative & everyone I had contact with at LIHP was very helpful & kind.
