New Build: As ever, we were keen to use local providers and visited Howdens simply to get an idea of their range and prices. We understand the trade only ethos, having been in the business ourselves but in this instance were buying for our private needs and just wanted a bit of guidance on ranges. Not only could the staff not be bothered to stop leaning against either the counter or the back wall when deigning to respond to us but the message was simply that we won't talk to you, only your builder. I cannot recall ever having been treated so disdainfully before, as either a private or a trade buyer. We didn't want a visit from the 'design team' at this moment, or have to return home, phone our builders, ask them to visit with us to discuss what we might or might not like in terms of styles etc and then they have to spend time and money [mine] going back and forth to Howdens as an intermediary when all we went there for in the first place was a bit of common politeness and friendly guidance, neither of which were provided.
