Buyers beware of leasehold flats. The service charge may seem reasonable now, but how would you like to receive a service charge bill of 10’s of thousands of pounds in a few years time! Yes , that’s exactly what’s happening now to leaseholders up and down the country. And it’s all because builders like Fairview built unsafe properties and are refusing to fix them.

I own a flat built by Fairview New Homes. It can't be sold. It can't be remortgaged. It's worth ZERO due to many fire safety defects which Fairview has so far refused to put right, leaving thousands of flat owners like me in Colindale facing bankruptcy & mental health issues as a result of 18 months worth of stress. They promised to address my specific concerns back in February 2021. I haven't heard anything since. Beware!

I just want to warn all future buyers of two main things I wish I knew before buying my Fairview built flat: 1. Fairview built quality is terrible. I am more than happy to share my EWS1 certificate with lowest B2 rating with any of you as a proof. 2. Leasehold is a scam in it own. You have no rights. Freeholder and your management company can and will recharge you for everything they wish. Your service charges will double every few years. (Mine started just at 1k for the first year and has now reached 4k in just 5 years). Fairview team if you read this - when you are going to admit your mistakes and fix the houses you built in Colindale?!

1 star is flattering. In reality it should be 0 stars. My 6 year old flat (built by Fairview) has just received an EWS1 B2 rating. This means this developer cut corners everywhere they could while building my flat. They even gave me the assurance that I'd be covered by a 10-year NHBC (new build warranty), which was meant to give me peace of mind, but has proven to be absolutely useless. Now I am stuck with skyrocketing insurance premiums and service charges (not to mention the upcoming remediation costs that somebody will have to pick up - you can guess who that will be). I am not just facing bankruptcy, but banks are also refusing to remortgage. I can't sell, I can't cover the costs and Fairview takes no ownership of the problem they have created. Fairview has effectively converted my dream of owning a home into the nightmare of being trapped in a flammable building.
