The Hill House is probably the most important work of MacKintosh now that the beloved Glasgow School of Art is no more. The houses mixes traditional asymmetric Scottish Baronial architecture exterior with interior designed in a mix of then modern Art Nouveau. The Glasgow Style takes a predominance in the interiors, the signature MacKintosh style everywhere typified by his use of simple natural forms. Right now the entire building is enclosed in a sort of mesh as part of the restoration works. The enclosing structure also includes platforms that take viewers high up, which gives a bird's eye view of the building.

Its a wow from me ! I was blown away by the whole experience. I am a fan any way but seeing this beautiful house so complete with original paintings, soft furnishings, wallpaper, carpets and furniture was a real treat. To be able to walk around and above, looking down over the roof top taking in spectacular views was extra special !!! Well done NTS

Really interesting property so ahead of its time in style both inside and out. Nice café with outside roof. You need to book to tour the house 8 people every half hour, plenty of parking at the top of the hill.

A well worth visit. Mackintosh's designs are wonderful. A bit pricey for ordinary folk.

It's currently closed for maintenance for the foreseeable future. It has a delightful tea room, my friend Mathew used to work in, an extensive little library and good spot of history revolving round Charles Rennie Mackintosh time staying with the family and how his architectural perspective was based round the family's day to day living in the building. The garden is large and surrounds the property
