Lovely visit but not one of my favourite EH sites. There is plenty of parking available but is not owned by EH so you have to pay even if you are a member. The Castle has a lovely full gift shop with plenty of things to buy. Located just outside of Helmsley town centre so worth merging two visits! Also worth a trip to the Castle Gardens next door - really beautiful!

Lovely visit today, beautiful weather and very few visitors. English Heritage doing a great job to ensure Covid compliance. Using the QR code to get the tour audio was easy and worthwhile. Staff were exceptionally helpful. Interesting place to visit, steeped in History. Nothing to do with English Heritage but the Council are scraping a lot of money in car parking fees.
Run by the English heritage so it's well maintained and clean. Gift shop and toilets onsite. Car park ( chargeable) nearby.
The castle is mostly a ruin, with the exception of the tudor mansion portion. That being said, the ruins and earthworks are quite impressive. The castle wasn't too busy when I visited, and there is plenty of space for social distancing. As with most English Heritage sites, the message boards are decent. If you want to know more about the place and it's history the guide book is worth buying.
I loved the quaint village of Helmsley. Spotlessly clean and the shops and tea places all had a charm of their own. We spent a small fortune in an Antiques shop with a delightfully friendly owner. Its the first time I'd been there but it won't be the last.
A great place to visit. Full of history and some great old architecture. We'll worth a visit.
If you love history its fab Was doing some ancestry here Views are Amazing
Very impressive castle in a lovely old market town. Lots of Helmsley Castle to explore both inside and outside, car park next to the castle.
