A wonderful experience - two hours getting to know and then feed, brush and walk alpacas was great fun. Our host (Eleanor) was so kind and knowledgeable the time flew by as we visited Llamas, goats, horses and pigs as well. My family loved it - the phrase ‘absolutely fantastic’ has been used repeatedly.

All the children got their own pompom headed alpaca or hippogriff-like llama to parade around the Cornish hills. The farm was run, unexpectedly, by an international llama expert. Apparently llamas will only allow certain people to stroke them. If you are their designated leader for the day then this is sufficient. Being an accompanying adult, as my child’s llama made abundantly clear to me, is not. They are a proud species, and hate it, for instance, if anyone is taller than them. As they pass a small hillock on the walk, they must each have their own opportunity to stand proudly upon it, and if one llama takes pride of place for too long, they are bumped right off it by the next in line. An errant alpaca, who had been upsetting the smaller pompoms, had been moved to the big boy llama field to be taught a bit of a lesson. They would be able to handle him. As we cleared the hill, we saw that “handling” involved having a huge spitty scrap, sending the gangsta alpaca to Coventry at the other end of the field and giving him daggers. For our 15, we were also witness to hairy tusked boars begging for food (why did I not take a picture of this?) and helped to feed of an oncoming alpaca army.

Wow wow wow. This trek was one of the biggest highlights of our 10-day UK adventure. Eleanor was amazing and knows so much about animals. We learned more than we could have imagined about camelids' behavior and evolution, and had so much fun doing so. Getting to meet the various animals was such a treat, from the gorgeous animals we each walked (Hawthorne the llama, Borage and Apollo the alpacas), to the llamas, goats, alpacas, pigs, horse and mule (some of whom we got to cuddle). It was non-stop fun and amazement. Getting to see the beautiful Cornish country side and an abandoned tin mine was a plus. We would definitely do it again if we got the chance, and highly highly recommend it!

We had a great trek with Eleanor and Sandra. We had llamas Snoopy and Louis, and they were great characters. We met lots of lovely alpacas, and other animals on the farm

We've always wanted to try llama or alpaca trekking, what an amazing experience! We opted to walk an alpaca and a llama, getting to brush and feed them before going on an hour and a half trek round the farm. Our guide, Eleanor, was great. She introduced us to all the animals on the farm, giving us lots of information and answering all our questions. I would highly recommend Carthvean alpacas.
