Professional quick service from my first phone call to the receptionist. The nurse who saw me was knowledge, put me at ease & made me smile. The nurse sought a second opinion from the ward sister. I was seen promptly. As always the NHS were fabulous. I live remotely in Cornwall so Helston 6 mile's away is my nearest hospital.

I visited here whilst on holiday at the end of August 2019, with severe neck and back pain which had come on very suddenly. Having checked the website, I made the journey to the minor injuries unit. I was really frustrated and disappointed that once I had accessed the hospital and found the correct department, that it was temporarily closed and that the nearest place I could visit was either Redruth or Camborne which are several miles away. There was simply no one around to ask advice. Maybe I'm just too used to having access to 24 hour emergency medical services, including a minor injury unit close to my home. It definitely gave me an appreciation of how rural communities have to cope without access to such services. I'm sure that they would tell me that it's a small price to pay for living in such beautiful surroundings! Just wonder how people cope in critical situations.
We were down in Cornwall from Norwich on holiday and our 7 year old daughter. Whilst here she was bitten by we think was a horsefly and had a horrible allergic reaction. The bite went septic and we came here to have it seen to. A really wonderful nurse dressed the bite and gave her some antibiotics to deal with the infection. We were really pleased with how it was dealt with and how nice the staff are here. Thank you so much!
Absolutely awful hospital. This hospital seriously neglected a member of my family. Basically the neglect led to her death.
Well equipped, well staffed. Everyone kind. JUST DON'T COMPLAIN ABOUT THE FOOD, which is frankly terrible on a bad day and passable on a good day; the quantities can also be variable, along with availability. I fell foul of the nursing staff for providing food for my mother there: the nursing staff claimed I was overfeeding her, despite the approval of their visiting dietician. My mother, who was in the hospital after Treliske and West Cornwall hospitals, having lost weight during an infection, continued losing weight: the reason being the quality of the food. I went to public school in the 1960s, and school meals (often a byword for pig swill) were better quality in my opinion than some of the dishes Helston Community Hospital serves. What's my job? I'm a chef.
