Gearings Point is a great place to look for the whales, esp. in winter season the Southern Right Whales, the gentle giants. They often come close to the shore and linger for a while. I visited Hermanus in October 2020 for about one week and experienced awesome sightings. For example, a mother and her calw were lingering close to the shore in the late afternoon. By the way the Cliff Path is also a great hot spot looking for whales along the close till to the New Harbour. You shouldnt miss it. In addition short unworked/unedited video clips about the sightings. Moreover some small maps to give an overview.

Good place to visit, not very much to do, whale season from about June to end of November

Great place to come around September/October to watch the whales jump around and take care of their babies. Such a beautiful place

Could not decide on a 2 or 3 - the fish and chips portion was small and the fish overcooked - with the small flat portion a darker golden batter was unnecessary. The mussel special was well appreciated by my son. Tasty. I would not go there again as the view from some other restaurants was just as good. Go for the view from the harbour and find a much better eatery in Hermanus. Hermanus was very quiet.
