I have had two sessions at the dark room and could not have been more pleased. Emily is a great teacher and her patience and friendliness makes the darkroom great for photographers of all skill levels. If you are looking to get back into photography and the fun film experience while also supporting a local community art center for all ages- look no further!

Emily from The Darkroom has planned and delivered workshops at The Horsebridge Centre for 10-25 year olds as part of The Young History Makers project. These workshops were educational, fun and a great way to engage young people with lens based arts. I recommend the cyanotype workshops as a great way to learn traditional photography techniques out in the fresh air.
What a wonderful setup Emily has got going here! The Darkroom itself is set within a local arts centre (complete with an awesome coffee shop). But the experience itself is what makes experiencing the Darkroom something fun and an experience everyone should try. Emilys direction is wonderfully calm, friendly and professional. Beforehand, the idea of developing your own photos would prove to be quite the daunting task (actually in all honesty, I wouldn't have a clue where to start), but Emily guided me through it with ease, helping me understand each and every bit of the process. It's definitely something I'd recommend everyone tries, because seeing your own print at the very end makes it all worth it. Enjoy!
Great darkroom which saves me having to convert a spare room at home each time I want to print some negs! Emily is a great workshop leader too. The hire fee for the darkroom is very reasonable. There's a great cafe downstairs when you need to take a lunchtime break too.
From my experience the darkroom in Herne Bay and the opportunities for using traditional photographic enlarging and print methods make it an absolute community asset. The only place I can think of that you would get this much free roam to experiment as much as this would be in London where you'd expect to pay atleast 3 times the price for as much time as you get here. The person who runs this facility is wonderful making time to help you and feel like the darkroom is a space where everyone can have a go. I would strongly recommend that if you have a black and white film that needs developing, go here and learn to get the most out of your pictures, you'll get the satisfaction of supporting a small business, growing your skills and having fun whilst doing so. An absolute joy to use the darkroom at Beach Creative!
