A remarkable site neatly arranged to show the extensive excavations of Vindolanda Fort giving explanations of the various levels of building throughout the years of Roman occupation and beyond. The exhibits within the museum are a testament to the hard work that has been going on for 50 years and show some of the best examples of their kind ever to be discovered. A small restaurant with a great terraced area on two levels serves some great meal options too.

This was a brilliant place to visit, suitable for all ages. Really interesting museum both inside and outside. Nice tea rooms and garden. If you have time go to the Roman Army Museum first as it will explain the importance of Vindolanda.

Wonderful setting with many layers of history. Fascinating museum where you can now see some of Britain's 'top treasures', the hand written manuscripts of Romans who lived at Vindolanda. Lovely tearooms and friendly staff. Great day out.

Great customer service and guidance according to the new Covid-19 measures. Handy that we didn't have to book in advance unlike some other places nearby that caught us out! Looking forward to returning again soon!

Amazing...the Roman Fort and the Museum kept us rapt for over 4 hours; with Paul (Guide) giving us a history lesson in a light amusing manner. We could have stayed longer if tome permitted

A fantastic, active archeological site where you can immerse yourself in daily Roman garrison life 2000 years ago. I listened to a very knowledgeable archeologist talk about how remarkably advanced our ancestors were and the very structured and disciplined way in which the fort was run, fascinating! Whilst none of the interactive exhibits were functioning, the museum was still very interesting and well worth a visit. There was also a mason painstakingly preserving the stonework exactly as it was uncovered. He was very happy to talk about his work and the traditional techniques he uses and keen to tell us about interesting aspects of his work. A great day out!

So much to see on this huge site. In the time we were there, we did not do it justice. This gives us a good reason to re-visit. The official guides we met were extremely knowledgeable and very helpful indeed. If you are in the area, it's not to be missed.
