Had a blast looking around with family and learning history. Can't wait for renovations.

What a great little side stop! It was really cool to see "district 12" and hear the history of the area! The owners were very gracious and welcoming. They have lots of great plans for reviving this little village- so many changes to come but I still liked the nostalgia and history! The tour fee goes to the conservation of Henry River Mill Village
This is definitely worth checking out especially if you are into paranormal or if you are a fan of The Hunger Games (this is where they filmed District 12 scenes). The two guys that volunteer there...I think their names are Adam and Chris (sorry guys if that's not right)...anyway, they are really funny and it was fun talking to them and hearing their stories. They are also a non-profit here so anything extra that you give them helps the place out alot and helps to keep it operational.
Used to be open no gate or nothing drive right in and look around. As a person who has lives in Hildebrand and drives by this spot daily don't waste your 15. Stop on the outside of the gate where it's free and get your photos of the building. The guy who owns the property is super wealthy and doesn't want to spend his own money to restore anything so that is why he is trying to make a cash cow out of 2 buildings. He's just mad no one wanted to buy the property for 1.4 million. Plenty of space to park on the shoulder for free and snap photos of the building's.
I was foolish and did not read other reviews. This is private property and requires a 15/person charge for a tour. Driving through, you can tell it would be interesting to look at and take pictures, but not worth 15 per person. There are only a handful of buildings and old boarded-up homes.
Fun for history and a family day out. Its like stepping back in time just a short drive away. Since it was bought its pricey to walk.
On a whim we decided to stop here while traveling through the area. I'm a hunger games fan, my husband had no idea what it was. We both enjoyed touring the houses and the area. We stopped at the trailer, talked to a nice guy that gave us info about the area and history. Then we walked around and took pics at our leisure. Cool experience.
The HRMV is privately owned and you need to contact them to enter the area. The guy who answered the phone was unbelievably friendly and despite the tropical storm allowed us to snap a couple photos since they were closed. Would be a beautiful location for photography and the website says they have paranormal tours.
