Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge is a wonderful place to visit if you are interested in observing or photographing sand hill cranes. The accommodations are bare bones in the winter months (e.g. no restrooms) so be prepared to enjoy the company of thousands of cranes that make the pilgrimage each year.

Wonderful location at the gazebo observation platform to observe sandhill cranes and waterfowl. Be forewarned, there are no restrooms available at this location. It would also be nice to have a book to record the observations.
