I like Elephants which is good as there is big one in the room. £2.4 billion is lost in the UK each year replacing staff absence due to Addiction, Stress and Mental Health issues. People want to talk about and people want to fix it. Why not prevent it so you don’t have to fix it? 1. Suicide is the biggest killer of men under 50? 2. More people take their lives each day due to Mental Health issues than die in car accidents. 3. In the last week, 1 in 6 people will have experienced a common Mental Health problem. 4. Staff absence as a result of stress or addiction related conditions are staggering. 5. Those absences impact your productivity and they impact profitability. 6. We treat Physical Health but there is still a stigma surrounding Mental Health? 7. Mental Health issues lead to Addiction, Addiction leads to Mental Health issues. 8. In their life, 2 in 3 people will experience Mental Health issues. 9. A Mental Health condition is a lonely condition. 10. Let’s get this on the table. Besides having a long corporate background, I have direct experience of Addiction and Mental Health issues therefore I relate and identify with employees who are secretly struggling. Prevention is better than cure and talking about it is the first step. So let’s talk about that Elephant…
