Mike in the Best Buy Ridgedale Auto/Electronics Installations area was very knowledgeable, very helpful, very professional, very personable and got the install project done perfectly... and for much less than I would have expected. I can't speak highly enough about the positive experience I had with Mike and the installs team at the Minnetonka store.

We have purchased numerous (12) Apple computers through the Best Buy in Minnetonka and purchased the Geek Squad Protection. We recently took in one of our 27" iMacs to have worked on. We were told that the drive needed to be wiped because there was an issue with the operating system. We received all of the updates - we've got your computer, we're working on your computer, your computer is done and ready for pick-up and you have a scheduled appointment. We went in signed the paperwork and walked out with our computer. Unfortunately when we got the computer back, plugged it in and turned it on. They had actually done nothing - when called they said that it is not fixable and because it is 5 years old neither Best Buy or Apple will fix it. The Geek Squad should have at least told us that the computer was not fixable and if they new that they could not repair anything 5 years old or older why did they not say so from the beginning? When asked this question they did not have an answer and hung up on us. We were looking for a reasonable explanation as to why we were not informed of their conclusion or the restrictions on the age of the equipment that they can actually work on. We did not receive one and instead of having a conversation or forwarding our call to a manager they hung up. Very disappointing - lack of communication and rudeness. We have learned our lesson and will not buy any future computers from Best Buy. Reputation for a business in invaluable - this is behavior diminishes the hard work of the organization in one fell swoop!
The most terrible experience in my life. I had appointment at 6 pm, but I waited 52 min before beginning of my appointment - till 6.52 pm. I didn't get my warranty, I drove next day, but employee, who worked with me, had a day off, so I have to waste another day to find my warranty documents and come back tomorrow. I didn't get total support, no explanation - what part of job was done. Now I just want to go back and return this camera - videotegistrator. Thank you for terrible mood, wasting time and money !
Im a long-time BB customer and have spent thousands with them. In my opinion (and I've had repairs done 3x over 5yrs) Geek Squad provides overpriced and underwhelming service, lacks integrity and honesty, and I wouldn't recommend them at all. My laptop died and I managed to copy files/music/pics to external drives; I bought a new laptop at Best Buy and wanted them to move the files/pics/music/iTunes & library to the new laptop so everything was in one place, and to ensure executables and current versions (ie. iTunes)i were installed so everything would work correctly as before. I asked/confirmed 6 times that they would do what I wanted--on the phone when I set up an appt, 2x with the tech, 2x again with tech's manager, and the next day on the phone when they called to confirm the timeline for the work. The work cost 250 and they DID NOT DO WHAT I REQUESTED--they moved files to a single larger external passport drive, ran defrag utilities to "enhance" performance, ran virus software (which wasn't the issue AND Ive had Symantec antivirus for years), installed other antivirus software and "webroot", both of which I said I didn't need or want installed. At this point I didn't have time to stay and argue, and I wasn't comfortable leaving the laptop again, the decision to leave and write them off is on me. Shame on you Best Buy, and Geek Squad. The work they did, I could've done myself. I'd recommend finding a local quality knowledgeable shop for repairs of any kind. Regardless of who you choose, be sure to ask questions and be clear about what you want done and what you expect. And my laptop hasn't run any faster or better then before they worked on it.
These guys know their stuff AND how to communicate best options in an understandable way without techspeak! More reasonable pricing than Microsoft, more reliable than indies.
guys in the Autotech Bay do excellent work. i bought an aftermarket backup camera on amazon and tried to install it myself; after spending countless hours running the wiring to the front of the vehicle the thing would not turn on; i brought it in for a 10 am appointment and one of the Autotech guys (unfortunately can't remember his name) fixed a bit of wiring and mounted the monitor for me in less than an hour; only charged 50 for the monitor mounting (rather than the 130 for the full wired backup camera install, as i had already done all of this part). keep in mind, i stopped by another aftermarket place in new hope, MN first and they quoted my 600-800 for the exact same install. i will return here for any and all backup camera installs and more in the future and could not be more satisfied with my experience
I called in to mount a TV, and after answering a few questions about the setup, was quoted 129 with an installation date a few days out. On the day of installation, the tech calls me and informs me that since the mounting would be on wood and over a gas fireplace, that the service would cost an additional 200. This seemed like extremely shady behavior, so I would not do business with this company going forward.
I went in with an iPhone that wouldn't charge, they said there's nothing they can do, and they wanted me to pay 150 to replace it. Turns out there was just a little dust in the charging port, I cleaned it out with a toothpick, and it worked fine. Good thing I didn't take their word.
