The food was great we had waygu tataki, chutoro nigiri, arubi(?) roll, and the assorted roll. It all tasted so fresh and flavorful! The service was incredibly slow however and hopefully next time we visit it’ll be better.

Zen is my new favorite Japanese restaurant in Houston. Before I would go to kata robata for great sushi and sushi Miyagi or Nippon for great (cooked) japanese food. Zen combines my favorite qualities of all those places. It is warm and low-key but still elegant, serves incredibly fresh sushi (fresh from Tsukiji) and has wonderful Japanese dishes that's hard to find. I love the rolls (especially the extra picante and Zen rolls), the large selection of dons (rice bowls) and the variety of noodle dishes (from sukiyaki to udon to ramen). The grilled fish/eel is next on my agenda. I also found the vegetarian options to be plentiful and tasty. Oh, and the house sake has a great floral flavor. I can't recommend this place enough!

This place has very good sushi. I've been to many sushi places and this is probably one of the top in Houston. Recommended. Atmosphere is a little loud when crowded, but that's it.

Japanese food and service at this location is excellent. Staff is always timely even when they have a full house. There was fast and courteous service. Bring your hunger - portions are generous. Reminds me of a place in New York I liked to visit.
