These 2 reviews are not about the church, but the fiestas that are associated with this town. ··· 1st ··· In Huete, there are 2 main religious fiestas in May, from the 2 neighbourhoods (barrios) - Barrio de Atienza with San Juan Evangelista - & 2 weeks later - Barrio de San Gil with Santa Quiteria. The first main procession will end at this church & it’s very impressive. There’s a lot of dancing while holding this statue aloft on the float. Impressive, because it looks to be a hefty piece of work. The photos that you will take with have ‘a sea of faces’, because it is very popular. I recommend ··· 2nd ··· Here in Huete, I was first introduced to the word, “Galopeo”. With my initial translation, it’s like galloping (horse-like) - running off at great speed. Proving again, that you can’t always apply direct translations with Spanish & English. This is a cross between procession & charanga. A brass band follows a group of people down a road or around the town. The music makes the people dance & then more people come to dance. At the scheduled time, not many people are present. It’s like, “I don’t want to sit at the front of the class”. Then they’re off (not galloping). The music at the end of each tune does speed up & the dancing becomes more frantic which may suggest the ‘galloping’, I suppose. Then with the next tune, all is as expected. Now, with many non-religious processions, you would expect to see a lot of alcohol consumed, but the dancers are holding hands in large & small circles. Only the spectators can have a glass or bottle in their hands. Or a camera & a bottle, in my case. Cheers Opps, they’re off again!
