Appalling Customer Service. We ordered a taxi for the first part of our journey from Hungerford Station to Gatwick Airport. I booked online and called in advance, to make sure the booking had been received. On the day, 10 minutes after the taxi was due, I called to see where it was. The person I spoke to said he would find out where the driver was. 5 minutes later, I had to call again and was told he couldn't contact the driver and he would try again. 10 minutes later, I had to call again to be told he still couldn't contact the driver. By this time I knew we would miss our train and was worrying whether we would be able to catch the next train to Reading, which, was our last chance to catch the connection to Gatwick in time for our flight. After calling again, he said he still couldn't contact the driver and he was in Reading, so he couldn't help us. We were left with no alternative but to drive to Gatwick. As our return flight was into Heathrow, we then had to make the journey to Gatwick to retrieve our car. In short, the taxi didn't turn up and we received no phone calls to update us. Hardly putting the customer first. I would not recommend 1st Direct due to the appalling customer service, stress and inconvenience they caused us. It wasn't possible to post this review without giving at least one star, which is one more than they deserve. Updated 23-01-20 Thank you for responding to my review. There are however two major flaws in your response. You had my mobile number and yet you didn't call it ONCE. WE DO NOT HAVE A LAND LINE TELEPHONE so, you could not call that 14 times :-) Secondly, while you offered to take us to Gatwick, given that you were in Reading, hadn't called us once to update us, we had little faith that you would turn up in time to catch our flight. Hence, we took the decision to drive to the airport.
Awful. My other half was really upset by the drivers behaviour when she was in the cab with him. If the guy I believe to be called Mark or Mike spent as much time on his customer services as he did antagonising other drivers and people im sure the ride would of been better. Avoid.
Absolutely terrible communications, didn't respond to confirmation email or text, car absolutely filthy, didn't show for return journey, avoid. The 1 star is only because he did arrange an alternative cab if he hadn't done that it would be zero stars.
