Thrive Youth Work is a Christian youth project committed to inspiring positive growth in young people living in the locality of Huntingdon by connecting with them, where they are, caring for them in relevant ways, celebrating their unique gifts and qualities, and challenging them in their thinking and actions. The Thrive Youth Cafe (Huntingdon Town Centre), open on Monday afternoons, provides a safe space for young people to spend time and access pastoral support; it is staffed by volunteers trained in youth mentoring and safeguarding. Thrive partners with local charity Gauntlet to teach teenagers to ride motorcycles, building their confidence, resilience and self-esteem whilst they learn practical skills in mechanics and riding. Thrive Mentoring is an ‘in-school’ service, held in local secondary schools, where volunteer mentors help young people develop independent skills and resilience to cope with issues of self-esteem, confidence and anxiety. A major focus for Thrive Huntingdon in the next 6 months is to raise funds for the Thrive Youth Cafe to increase its youth outreach by becoming a mobile, multiple location cafe, operating four afternoons a week. In July 2018, Thrive was awarded a grant from the Innovate and Cultivate Fund from Cambridgeshire Community Foundation, which will support the opening of two additional youth cafes in the broader Huntingdon region.
