周辺道路の建設工事中に偶然発見された金山の坑道が 道路の法面にポッカリ口を開けている。 横沢金山と言うと色々と諸説があり 現在の岩手県一関市東山町田河津の横沢地区、 夏山地区にあったと伝えられる金山。 そのほか、岩手県室根村折壁の浜横沢地区にあった という説や、 岩手県室根村津谷川の横沢地区にあったという説がある。 近世以前の史料には徴すべきものがない。 藩政期には伊達藩に属していた。
