We own holiday cottages on Exmoor and have planning permission to build a new bungalow. To minimise disruption to our guests we decided to close for 6 weeks in April 2017 to build the masonry shell. We approached several local builders in November 2016, and accepted a quote from Mr Goodman of Goodmans Builders in Ilfracome who said that our job would fit nicely with his existing job due to finish in March 2017. However in mid-February 2017 he contacted us to say that his current job was delayed due to the architect and engineer (not his fault then) and that he now couldn't do our job at all. Needless to say the other builders who originally quoted us have now found other work and we think it unlikely that we will be able to find alternative builders at such short notice, so he has well and truly left us up the creek without a paddle! We cannot comment on his work because he let us down before even starting! But in our experience DO NOT trust him to do what he promises......We have read your reply Mr Goodman, please do contact us if there are any factual inaccuracies in our review and we will be happy to put them right....... UPDATE It was very difficult to find another builder who could do the work at such short notice but we did eventually find someone in mid-March but at a higher cost!
