a beautiful mansion house and gardens - the first large house to be purchased by the National Trust - on a cold and wet December day probably not at it's best but with a little imagination you can see how this place must come alive in the spring and summer! Sadly Covid stopped us going inside but at least we have an excuse to come back another day!

Stunning gardens so many colourful flowers some i had never saw before nice tea room and house was amazing Loved the story the lady told us in the kitchen were the saying \being left on the shelve came from \ the staff used to sleep on the shelves in the kitchen and sneak into each others bed ( shelf) and if u didnt have a bf then u were left on the shelf lol always wondered were that saying came from Also they have a buggy they drove us from the shop to the house due to my disabilities which was very kind of them lots of goodies in the souvenir shop Highly recommend going here lovely day out I do love a day out to a national trust house have been to many this was one of the most enjoyable and im local too so may go back again

With the House closed for roof repairs and no woodland walks, around an hour is enough time to see this estate. Highlight for me are the formal gardens, divided into three walled areas, they are still providing many blooms. It an unusual NT property as there are many out houses, some tenanted and several independent businesses have setup here including pottery and wood carving. The Court House is Mid 16th Century, a striking building of renaissance architecture with it's distinctive chimneys and pinnacles.

This is an excellent place to visit, even in lockdown for local people. Lots of space to roam around.

Beautiful house and gardens. The house was one of 7 opened by the National Trust to visit, it was owned by the Lyle family, extremely large acreage to walk around and the house has no furniture inside, but was extremely well organised by the National Trust to visit. You should be aware that the roads to the property were extremely narrow, especially if you meet a tractor and trailer. Definitely recommend this house and gardens to visit, the gardens were excellent. Lots of birds, butterflies and dragonflies. Enjoy the photographs.
