October 15, completed the 12 mile trail. After passing heart lake where I originally stopped due to the snow in July, the incline got difficult and there is no coverage after a mile or 2. Be sure to wear sunscreen.no trouble with bugs. P. S the trail does continue into the valley.

Love it! Totally reminds me of the high alpine hikes in Yosemite, yet is way less crowded (at least, less crowded during pandemic times). The hike is not casual but is definitely doable. Uphill all the way to the lake, but never at too steep of an incline.
This one of many stops during a college geology class field trip. The hiking trail, surrounded by beautiful mountain views, was a little challenging. Partly because of the 9,200 ft elevation. We hiked approximately a mile to Little Pothole Lake, the first of 3 lakes on the trail.
Great hike from Onion Valley Campround area. Good amount of parking and bear boxes available. Surprisingly clean restrooms.
Trailhead parking lot. Bear boxes, trash cans, restrooms. No treated water available as of October 2019, appears shut off. Nearby creek, and maybe campground has water. Super clean restrooms. Make sure to pick up overnight wilderness permits at the Eastern Sierra Interagency Visitor Center in Lone Pine at 136/395 junction.
