Prenups, y’all. Prenups. But, if you find yourself in shoes similar to mine, and you got married without a prenuptial agreement, and your once-love is now trying to take somewhere between 50%-200% of your assets when they chipped in *pennies* (in comparison) to the over-all total investments, well then, you need a lawyer. NC separation and divorce laws are rather old fashioned and kooky, so, in general, having a lawyer is a good idea. Lawyers, however, are not all the same, and you want to ensure that you’re in good hands. Irons & Irons assisted me with all of my off-beat questions and concerns. They explained everything thoroughly and with compassion. When negotiating a settlement with the ex’s lawyer, they had my best interest in mind. And, thanks to them, the agreed-upon settlement was far better than if the assets were divided in a court. They’re extremely knowledgeable and stayed on top of everything. I greatly appreciate all of their help, and I highly recommend their services.
