Sri Neelakandeshwarar Temple was constructed by Karikala Chola in 433 AD near Noyyal river in Irugur, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The temple's main god is Lord Shiva, along with Nanthi and Parvati. Lord Neelakandeshwarar is believed to be founded as a Swayambu Linga 3000 years ago. According to history Karakala Cholan built/renovated 360 big shiva temples and 36 shiva temples in Tamilnadu in which this the 28th temple built/renovated by him. He did it because to get relief from his Brahmmahati dosa. According to history Chera, Chola and Pandiya all three kings contributed and renovated this temple in each of their ruling periods. But now most of them doesn’t know the history of this temple even local people who lives in this area. Whatever I shared here is I googled and got the info from the internet. Feeling proud that this old temple stands still with awesome history. Located now in main area of Irugur. Temple is clearly visible from main road. Parking available for both two wheelers and four wheelers. Everyone should know at least few information which I shared here. I hope my review will be helpful if anyone planning to visit this temple.
