Genuinely a great little station. Perfect for a fun little journey on its own, or as part of a day out. It is a beautiful journey, just long enough to engage and excite a little one, but not so long they lose interest. The staff are wonderful. Everyone is friendly and enthusiastic. There's a car park, a shop, play area, signal box, cafe as well as the trains!! The village is also right there, with a pub and the wonderful county side waiting for you to explore.
The Lavender Line is a lovely little heritage line which doesn’t see the crowds which it’s nearby counterpart (Bluebell Railway) does. Therefore it makes it ideal for children also as it’s only a two mile round trip so not enough time to get bored, plus it has a little miniature railway (Riley’s Miniature Railway), play area and signal box to explore too. It has a shop and a wonderful cafe which is famed for its all day cooked breakfast. Like with all heritage railways, it is run by a small band of volunteers who give up their time for free so that others can have a great day out. It does annoy me a little when I read some of the comments saying it is worn around the edges however people must understand they rely on their committed volunteers, the income they get through the gate and those supporters who are members. Heritage railways are expensive to maintain and they don’t get money thrown at them! My little rant aside, the Lavender Line is well worth a visit, especially when exploring the village, nearby countryside and the local pub!
There's a cracking little cafe here serving cakes, coffee, tea cakes, cooked breakfasts etc. The coffee I had was a bit average but it was more than made up for by the delicious home made cake and the lovely service, both reasonably priced. The cafe and platform is covered in charming memorabilia that made the visit a whole lot more interesting.
A warm and cosy cafe situated next to a working railway. Trains run every 30 minutes and I recommend doing the round trip walk which includes the train journey. Also cyclists very welcomed and the cafe is always warm in winter!
