南側の山麓からの山の容姿が馬の鞍に似ていることから、方言の「ウマヌファ」と名がついたらしい。展望よし。 南側からのルートは登りにくさから忘れ去られ、現在は北側の桴海於茂登岳へのルートから登るルートが一般的。 標高４５０ｍ。 ウマヌファ岳への往復は３時間ほど、１時間追加して桴海於茂登岳を回るルートがおすすめっ！ 桴海於茂登岳への登山ルートは、米原集落の知花食堂から南に進んだ突き当りに登山口がある。山頂には花崗岩が露出し、３６０度の眺望あり。
