The crane park is in a large area of land and boasts an impressive building which can be seen from miles around. Although the exhibition in the main hall costs money, it is free to visit the 360 degree viewing platform and even use the massive binoculars they have on top which makes it well worth going up. The children's play area is nice and the grounds are well maintained including an area where the locals play a type of mini golf with shuttlecock style balls. It's undergoing a development to make olives in future which should be interesting to see what they make with it. Although generally safe, there are some signs warning of snakes (probably more risk in warmer weather) but I have never seen any.
Great stop for crane lovers!
Known as the Crane Park by locals, it is located in the city center. This museum hosts occasional international crane symposiums and local exhibits. It's main permanent attraction contains many videos and boards informing visitors about the many cranes that come to Izumi every winter from late October to early March. Although current the exhibit is only in Japanese, an English version is in the works. Also, if you call in advance, an English guide can be made available. Very friendly individual. The museum also has a beautiful park and play area for kids which was renovated in 2014.
