Jane Austen’s house is a delightful cottage beautifully arranged with items that used to belong to her and her relatives or things which were typical of her time. Everything is tastefully displayed and you really get a good sense of what her life must have been like. You almost expect her to walk in as you go round the house! I found it particularly moving to see the little table she chose to do her writing on and to read extracts from her letters. The staff are all professional, friendly and make sure COVID protocols are adhered to without being intrusive. If anything, social distancing means the rooms are never crowded and you can fully enjoy the atmosphere. Ironically, this may actually be the best time to visit Jane Austen’s House before hordes of foreign tourists are allowed to return. Just make sure you book your slot before you go. There’s a well stocked shop on site where I bought a hard back copy of Persuasion and copies of Pride and Prejudice for my daughter and daughter in law. Beautiful souvenir which we will always treasure. I’m very much looking forward to returning.

Beautiful museum and well done during covid. We had the place to ourselves and could walk and read at our leisure. This was Jane Austen’s last residence before her untimely death. It’s more of a boutique museum and quite lovely!

Wonderful small museum to see the actual desk & home where Austen wrote, lived & made her quilts. I visited during Covid 19 period, so was a well arranged one way system in place with pre-booking & friendly staff. Small car park was full, but there was plenty of spaces along the road. Enjoyed a short walk down to the local church that has a small bronze of Jane Austen outside.

As an Austen fan I really enjoyed my visit although the weather wasn't the ideal so I think I'll be coming back on a different season. The house is really a museum and there are really interesting stuff about Jane's life and her family. Whilst visiting the different rooms you can actually see and imagine how life was when Jane lived there. Seeing her room and the table on where she wrote the novels was one of my favourite things. One of the things that I didn't know and surprised me was to find that one of her brothers visited Caracas (where I'm from) and that they have there the commemorative sword that he received from Simon Bolivar (Venezuelan/America's Libertator). So, if you are a fan of Austen as myself, I really recommend you to visit the house.
