I have studied under Sensei Smith since 2003 and I would highly encourage anyone interested in studying traditional Japanese martial arts to give Japanese swordsmanship of gwinnet serious consideration. The training and instruction you will receive are outstanding and more importantly the dojo atmosphere is very family oriented. You will be welcomed with open arms and feel valued as a fellow martial arts practitioner.

I started taking Aiki-Bujutsu classes here about a year and a half ago and it has been amazing. The head of the school, Sensei Nayef Smith is exceptional and is very committed to helping each student reach their full potential. I highly recommend this school!

I have been studying Shinkendo, here, under Sensei Nayef Smith since 2005 and still remain to this day. I started on a whim back when I was in high school, but it almost immediately became a major part of my life that deeply influenced my physical and mental being. I have taken up a number of other martial arts at different dojos, but the quality of instruction given at this school is among the best out there. Sensei Smith has an unparalleled dedication to the art and his students, and no matter how many years one stays, there is always something new to learn. We have had students from out of state come regularly to practice with us, and for good reason. JSoG offers instruction in 4 martial disciplines, three of which encompass the use of weapons and techniques passed down from bygone samurai eras (Shinkendo, Aikibujutsu, and Bojutsu) and one which was created in the early 20th century to teach military officers how to wield a sword against infantry (Toyama-Ryu). Sensei Smith and our senior instructors do a fantastic job at teaching, not only the physical aspects, but the history, philosophy, and traditional core values of the bushido code, as well. The atmosphere is also a major factor that sets this school apart. The members here are supportive and treat everyone as family, both inside and outside of the dojo. During class, everyone is determined to bring out the best in each other. However, it is common for us to train together or carpool to different events outside of practice, as well. These elements come together to make for a highly growth-oriented, non-toxic learning environment for students of all ages. If you are looking for a great school to learn the art of the Japanese sword, make friends, center your focus, or just aiming to get a good workout, then look no further. You will certainly not be disappointed.

The study of Shinkendo, Toyama Ryu, Aikibujutsu, and Bojutsu has had a major positive impact to many aspects of my life. This is a serious study school with an adaptive program that enables everyone to enjoy rigorous training regardless of age or physical condition. My dojo mates at Japanese Swordsmanship of Gwinnett are like my second family. We train hard and play hard together. I can't envision a future without JSoG in my life.
