Mahane Yehuda Police Station is a historic two-story building located at 107 Jaffa Road in Jerusalem, Israel. Constructed in stages during the nineteenth century, it was built to house the British Consul-General of Jerusalem, Noel Temple Moore, and his family, and was home to other British consuls until World War I. In 1920, when the British mandatory government went into effect, the house was converted into a police station. Following the establishment of the state of Israel in 1948, the Jerusalem District lost and found department was added to the police station.

My experience with the list and found at the police department began with someone pickpocketing my wallet at a shwarma restaurant on Agrippas Street. The problem was that I was leaving Israel a few days later and all my cards and money were in the wallet. The police took a report and indicated that identity theft was not a crime of choice in Israel. They felt that the thieves took the cash and dumped the wallet in the garbage. Nonetheless they were kind and listened to me. I appreciated that.
