Incredible place full of history, focusing on the Molly Maguires. Tours start every 20 minutes and consist of small groups of people. There’s a video presentation that lasts about 15 minutes and provides the background for the rest of the tour. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable of the place and little minutia and interesting tidbits related to the daily life of the prisoners. After walking around the main prison block we were taken to the dungeon, a dimly lit place where prisoners were taken under certain circumstances and had to endure isolation for some time. At the end of the tour you’re allowed to wander around freely and can take photos of whatever you like, except the handprint (no photos allowed of that,) and the dungeon (you can only take photos down there when you’re with the guide.) We will definitely come back next year when we visit Jim Thorpe. Oh, the restroom had a mirror like the one the prisoners had, I though that was pretty cool.

If you've never been to an old jail, this place is cool to see. It's not very well maintained, but that allows you to see it how it was \back in the day.\ They show you a video before the tour begins which presents some very interesting facts about the area and the people who lived (and went to jail) there. But the audio on the presentation is terrible, as are the chairs you sit in throughout the 10-15 min show. The walking about the jail is kind of cool to see and our tour guide told some good stories. All in all, worth a visit, esp. if you're with kids, they liked it.
This is a very wonderful place to take the entire family as well as if there are still scouting groups, Heritage patrol ,historical groups or any group that you would like to take out on an outing. Pricing is easy on the pocketbook. As well as the gift store. The history behind this entire jail and the Molly Maguire's is something that you will always remember. I have visited this once as a kid now is an adult with my child and it is well worth it. The staff is absolutely welcoming very accommodating and extremely knowledgeable and professional. Enjoy
Love this place. It is a must stop and see. So much history. If you are of Irish decent this is where the Molly Maguire's were jailed and hung. Right in downtown Jim Thorpe with lots of fun places to visit and enjoy. They used this jail up until the 1990's. Unbelievable!
There is no social distancing here. Interesting place and history. To get In You have to take the tour. For the first part of the tour you sit side by side in a room very close to about 16 other people. The movie is good. Then when you leave the room to go back into the jail there is no distancing. But if you are concerned about Covid don’t bother going. We left early.
