Hard to get up-to-date information from Jonangu's website and social media. The garden was free today and the fall garden ceremony was canceled today; both were surprises.
like
really nice, i recommend coming here for the plum blossoms, it's also nice in the summer
Sooooo niche. No one knows about this beautiful ume spot except for locals. Although there are a lot of locals so expect a big queue. One of the most magnificent specatles I have ever witnessed the weeping blossoms are like flower fireworks. I'm pretty sure a sneaky lady puts all the camelias on the moss in the morning. Super tears of joy.
Impressive gardens. Probably something for every season. Not heavily visited in fall. Limited number of maple (momiji). However, it was nice in that there were very few visitors. Rather long walk from Takeda station. Sections designed for different cultural historic eras. Located in the middle of heavily trafficked urban area where it offers relief from traffic noise.
Jonangu was the south guardian gate of the ancient capital, Kyoto. This shrine is believed to have a power to purify bad direction, lead success in construction and transport. The garden is famous for weeping plum trees. I visited here on 13th Feb 2019, unfortunately only some of them were in bloom and most of them were still in buds. But yet they were lovely and worth visiting.
