This was the poorest service I have ever encountered. We waited nearly five hours for assistance. Only four customers/clients were in front of us. After two hours of waiting, I approached the front desk and asked what was happening. I was told that it is their goal to not make people wait for more than four hours, but he would tell his supervisor we were waiting. Another two hours went by. I approached the front desk and asked why the long wait, as I had to pick up my child from school and had been in the office since 10:30 that morning. I was told she would tell her supervisor we needed to see someone soon. Another half-hour went by and we were at last ushered into an office where we were taken care of in ten minutes. I asked why it took five hours for a ten-minute service and was told there's a new protocol in place and case workers are now dedicated to serve only those clients in their particular area of expertise. This didn't explain the five hour wait. I am Trustee to a disabled client, whom I was accompanying, and the lack of compassion, service, professionalism and lack of plain human dignity is appalling. We missed lunch by a couple of hours and our blood sugar was plummeting and my friend needed to take her medicine. Since we had no idea we would be there for FIVE HOURS, we didn't bring food, water or medication. Next year when I have to do this all over again, I'll pack a lunch and plenty of water. Alaska Division of Public Assistance punishes this most vulnerable and impoverished population by its lack of giving a damn. One more thing: The service they provided us is not offered over the phone or the internet so we had to come in person in order to get the signed form we needed for the bank. In this day and age that is ridiculous and there is no excuse for such poor management. I hope Dunleavey cleans house at H&SS.
