A must see when in Juneau. Hey cruise ship people get off that boat and go in town, away from the crowds to this super amazing restaurant making everything from their own cured meats, fresh mozzarella and scratch made dough. The wines are good, service super friendly and they even have a cute little patio. The deli is right beside to hook up on great to go stuff. Get anything with the local basil. It packs a punch. It wasn't too busy, but service was slow and had to catch waitresses for water often. Not sure why, if its authentic, but pizza was too thin and few on toppings and much too big on a charred crust. Flavor was good, just skimpy and a little pricey.
What I ordered (for 16!) vs what I got. I think it explains itself.
My husband and I were so excited to try this place. We knew what we were going to order when we arrived (their menu is posted online), only to find out that their menu was completely different, which was really frustrating. It's tucked back and kind of hard to find but I enjoyed that aspect. The atmosphere is industrial and the seating is comfortable. We started off with the baked thunderdome and it was pretty good. All of their dough is sourdough which I love! My husband ordered the New York Pizza with added bacon (bacon was never added but we were charged for it). I ordered the leaky goat pizza, because I wanted to venture a little outside of my comfort zone. I did not care for my pizza at all, I think the leaks were just a bad choice on my part. However the toppings on both mine and my husband's pizza were really sparse, especially the cheese. Overall I didn't care too much for this restaurant. It's very trendy and hip and there is a lot unique flavors (in my opinion none that I really care to try like fennel pollen, honey-on pizza) so in turn the prices are higher. If you are a tourist or someone who's looking for a "unique experience," or "trendy" food this is your restaurant. However if you are a local just looking for a good meal I would not bother going here. While their sourdough is excellent I feel like it's definitely geared toward the hipper tourist crowd.
Lupo is my go-to restaurant for date nights with my fiance, girls nights with my friends, and for special dinners with loved ones visiting from out of town. The menu is a combination of super flavorful dishes that meld innovation with tradition. If I can, I try to order from the specials menu, as these are usually a nod to the most seasonal ingredients and creative dishes. I'm grateful that the Lupo team creates incredible food while also keeping the atmosphere of the restaurant relaxed and down to earth. Thanks for keeping us full and well fed, friends!
wow! They provide a really great dinner experience for us. We weren't sure what to expect, but by looking at the menu we knew it was going to be good. When we got there was even better than we could have expected. Such a family atmosphere, great wine, great food, and a really nice staff. We really enjoyed ourselves.
I felt like everything was there to make for a great experience. Great atmosphere, quality food and wine. They weren't very busy, yet the service was only so so. I rarely mention this kind of thing, but it was worth pointing out.
A calm and inviting atmosphere, the staff is friendly and prompt. You can watch the wood fired pizza oven as you meal cooks, enjoy a glass of one of the many wines or domestic and imported beers and relax with friends and family.
