Ted Stevens Marine Research Institute is Alaska’s largest fisheries research facility. The lobby is open daily to the public and it is definitely worth a visit. Impressive salt water aquariums in the lobby provide uninterrupted viewing of Alaskan marine life for everyone's enjoyment. Science-based educational guided tours of the facilities (including a touch tank for close encounters with Alaskan marine life!) and lectures that use the Science on a Sphere visualizations (available only in a handful of places around the world) are offered weekdays at 13:00 hrs., June through September. This facility, which is entirely heated by 100% renewable green energy, also offers fantastic views of Lena Point and whale watching opportunities from indoor and outdoor observation decks with complimentary use of scopes and binoculars; interesting landscaping, Ray Troll fish sculptures, and outdoor seating areas.
