Verbal and physical harassment of women has always been the most prominent type of violence against women in Afghanistan and women are rarely willing to file a formal complaint in judicial organization due to various social and cultural norms that inhibit access to justice. Discriminative social constructs in Afghan society have forced women to remain silent and to tolerate harassment and violence to avoid social criticism and re-victimization. For too long, revealing and filing cases of harassment has been considered a shame and often leads to questioning the dignity of the woman. Women face real and actual threats when revealing instances of harassment to the courts, with possible removal from educational and employment positions. Women in Afghanistan are not only victims of street harassment, but also victims of sexual harassment at work, home, university and school, prisons, sports stadiums and even in public places. Do you all know why? Yes! For being a "Woman"​ It is time that we as a society, as mothers, wives, fathers, husbands, sisters, and brothers stand together with one voice and stronger than ever we say “NO” to all forms of harassment of women TODAY. Every women has the right to live free from intimidation, fear, and violence with equal rights and protections under the law. We call upon all our friends, advocates, the media community, respected writers, and we sincerely ask for the public’s help to raise this issue and help bring an end to harassment of women in Afghanistan.
