This is a must do when in Kampen, Great display on the history of the town, has temporary exhibits (we saw a contemporary art exhibit which was running) and then you also visit the attached original medieval house. The museum is really well done and takes about an hour so a perfect change of pace when shopping and eating in Kampen. Highly recommend

We started from the top. Water level. This could very much be a an exhibition on any Dutch Museum. Textbook testimony to Dutch courage and farmer origins. Video animations, testimonies, interactive parts, objects from several centuries, an amazing level. We spent a lot of time there. The windows to the exterior are an AMAZING idea. The other levels also surprised us. Specially the Schepenzaal. Ground level also provides a local art exhibit and a coffee bar. This is miles away from Deventer's Stedelijk Museum. Sorry Deventer

The 'history of Kampen' room is quite interesting. I would have liked more info on the various bridges that have spanned the Ijssel river the years. One if the rooms was closed during our visit.

If you want a museum with staff that stalks you and makes you feel very uncomfortable this is the place to go. In addition there was so much information to read it took away from the enjoyment of the museum. Nothing was clearly labelled as to where to go in the museum. A lot of the signs with information sat nearly on the floor. The court house section was not available for anyone in a wheelchair or with any sort of walking disability. We thankfully went on a free day as the 6 euros they want for this place is appalling. One of the worst museums I've ever been to.
