They welcomed me and my girl with open arms they accepted me despite my past and are helping me become a better mother daughter sister and friend to those around me. They are teaching me to live again and to live for my lord and savior Jesus. There life skill classes are not only informative but I can teach others what I learn so they may also obtain this knowledge and live a Christian and healthy life.

Since experiencing staff accordance everyone at this Christian establishment is working on improvement and the director is very pleasant and will be allowing my son and I to continue our temporary placement. Not everyone is a bad person here and they have a great open door policy where some staff are younger and still are molding into adjustments but overall I haven’t had any altercations, bed bugs, power or water outages and I’m grateful for a clean and safe environment. Everything else will fall into and luckily this is a family shelter for families in Kansas City where shelters are very limited in this City. Structure is a priority due to location that allows disciplinary actions. I thank them for being available as I had no one else’s help. Bless Shears T

I don't like this place because it has bugs biting me and I saw them in person crawling around.

I didn’t want to give one star because at the end of the day, it was a place to go when I had nowhere. Downstairs bathrooms are very moldy smelling and dirty. You can smell the reek of urine before entering woman’s bathroom. The Showers down there too. Mold. Food wasn’t very good or fresh usually, and for some reason every time chips and snacks were served for lunch they were expired by months... but I understand because everything is mostly donated. It is in need dire need of renovation. Very old building. you can be out job searching all day but If you miss a chore you get written up- instead of them re assigning the chore to someone who sat around the shelter all day doing nothing or having some compassion. There was favoritisms. Which should never be allowed in a shelter. Very religious.... very centered on religion. No real resources for pregnant women at shelter. Case manager doesn’t give gas cards unless you have car insurance, but if someone is homeless and only has a car to their name, how will they afford insurance until they are on their feet? Won’t they need gas to get to work/interviews? These people don’t have much understanding for HOMELESS PEOPLE WHO HAVE SUFFERED TRAUMAS AND MAY BE MENTALLY ILL, one wrong move they’re out on the street. Again, very very dirty place. I don’t know if it was because it was a dark period in my life- or if it’s because the inside of the shelter is outdated, dimly lit with poorly chosen color schemes- but it’s not very spirit lifting. Pregnant women are not given extra snacks or food. Even if there are extra snacks and food. But it’s a last resort place. Just be ready to have to leave at any minute, so make sure you walk on egg shells and know the rules.
